Jewelry Business: Another Niche Market For Handmade Jewelry
As a jewelry designer, I know you understand the importance of niche marketing. By finding a niche market for your jewelry designs, you differentiate yourself from all the other common, mass produced
jewelry available to the consumer. Plus, when you’re only marketing to a narrow group of buyers, you reduce your advertising costs significantly.
I know you’ve all seen bracelets jewelry designers have made to raise awareness of certain medical conditions. The most popular would be cancer bracelets where different colored beads represent different types of cancer. The most popular seems to be the breast cancer awareness bracelet which uses pink beads and the pink ribbon breast cancer symbol. Well, why stop there?
There are all kinds of diseases out there for which there’s ongoing research and just as many groups who would like to raise funds to help support the cause. Why not pick a disease and design a bracelet or necklace to help increase awareness of that condition? I don’t know how many of these are already being done, but how about a:
1. Diabetes bracelet
2. Stroke bracelet
3. Alzheimer’s disease bracelet
4. Alcoholism bracelet
You could even design bracelets for much less common diseases. As long as they have a foundation that promotes awareness of the disease, there’s likely to be a market for your jewelry. Why not explore some of the specific medical foundations that are out there and see if anyone has designed jewelry to promote their cause?
In addition to market ing your niche medical jewelry designs through medical foundations, you could also set up a website to sell your niche medical jewelry. There are likely to be online forums discussing the particular medical condition you’re designing jewelry for which gives you a perfect opportunity to market your jewelry. Participate in their discussions and include a link back to your website that displays the jewelry that promotes their cause.
If you design a bracelet or necklace for more common medical conditions such as diabetes or stroke, you may be able to sell your jewelry through hospital gift shops or even medical clinics that specialize in treating that particular disease. You would need to create a small display highlighting your bracelet or necklace along with a paragraph describing the meaning behind your design which could be displayed in the waiting room of the clinic or at the cash register of a hospital gift shop.
If you’re successful marketing your first niche medical bracelet, design a jewelry piece to promote a second medical condition. Not only are you promoting your jewelry business, you’re also promoting a good cause!.And that should make you feel good as a jewelry designer!
