Hold A Free Clothing Swap
Take note of the following steps and start planning a clothing swap to help recycle some fantastic items!
Set your date and location. Invite as many people as you like. Remember, the more people the more items that will be available to swap. Remind everyone invited that items must be freshly laundered and in very good condition. Include on the invitation the date, time, location, items being swapped, and a reminder to bring bags or boxes to take newly found treasures home. Any unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity.
It’s up to you how to organize the swap. If you would like, have participants drop off items to a designated location prior to the sale and organize everything yourself; this is a lot of unnecessary extra work. The easiest way is to just have people come to the swap and lay out their items the day of the event. Remember…it’s a treaure hunt!
Popular items to include in the free swap and help declutter your home should include: coats, dresses, skirts, suits, pants, jeans, tops, blouses, sweaters, t-shirts, work-out wear, costumes, shoes, purses, jewelry, belts, hats and watches.
Ready…set…swap! Guests start swapping items by searching through items that were brought to the swap by other participants. There should be no limit on what guests can take. If they like it, it’s theirs, and it’s all free! What a great way to recycle useable items and give your wardrobe a boost.
Items NOT to bring to the swap include: anything that is ripped, stained, dirty, not good working zippers/clasps or worn out.
You may want to design invitations to participants. Be sure to clearly list all acceptable items, date, time, and location.
