Color Status on Facebook – Are You In?

There is a buzz going on in the Facebook community. Pink, red, cream, peach, flesh, white, black and even rainbow. Maybe you have seen these in the status of your facebook friends. So what does the color status stand for?

These past few days many Facebook users had been putting color in their status – actually female users. Female users actually put the color of their bra. Why? This may sound like just for a fun thing but this is actually for a breast cancer awareness campaign.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women in the U.S. Although this is a common form of cancer among females, there had been cases of men having breast cancer and actually accounts to 1% of male cancer deaths. Survival rates between men and women are the same.

Breast cancer can be cured if detected early. That is why awareness is important. Having this campaign on Facebook is a brilliant idea. Instead of the normal way of disseminating information, like sending messages to your inboxes, putting colors – color of the bra to be exact triggers ones curiousity. Using this technology, awareness can reach thousands of people in a short span of time and can eventually save lives.

So the next time you see a color in the status of your female friends, you know what to think…. breast cancer. Well for male users, you can skip the color status part – we understand. So are you IN?
